Buffer & media recipe calculator
Choose a common lab buffer or media recipe, enter the volume you want to make, and get a scaled component list (grams or millilitres of stock). Includes TAE/TBE/TE, PBS/TBS/TBST, Tris-glycine and Towbin transfer, LB/SOC, common stocks, plus Bond Lab SDS lysis, Super Western blocking, and electroporation buffer.
For single-component mass/molarity solves use the molarity calculator. Method notes for Bond Lab western buffers are in the western blot buffers guide.
Select a recipe and volume, then scale to see component amounts.
How to use this protocol tool
Each recipe is stored at a reference volume (for example 1 L of 50× TAE or 50 ml of Bond Lab SDS lysis). The calculator multiplies every quantitative component by target volume ÷ reference volume. “To final volume” lines mean bring the mix up with water (or TBS where noted) after dissolving other reagents.
Included recipes
- DNA / gels: TAE/TBE/TE, 6× loading dye, SSC/SSPE, alkaline lysis I–III, 3 M NaAc
- Protein / western: PBS/TBS/TBST, run/transfer buffers, RIPA, Laemmli, gel Tris stocks, APS, milk/BSA block, Ponceau, Coomassie, strip buffer
- Bacteria: LB, 2× YT, Terrific Broth, M9 salts, SOC, amp/kan/chloro stocks
- Cell culture: HBSS, 2× HBS, 2 M CaCl₂, trypsin-EDTA working dilution
- Stocks: Tris, EDTA, SDS, salts, HEPES, DTT, glycerol, ethanol, NaOH, glucose, mannitol
- Bond Lab: SDS lysis, Super Western blocking, mammalian electroporation buffer
Limitations
- pH must still be checked with a meter where the recipe says so — titration volumes are not predicted.
- Recipes are educational defaults; confirm against your lab SOP, MSDS, and sterile technique rules.
- All scaling runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
